‘He’s Back! Our Founder has returned. The Portrait of Nathaniel Woodard has been away for much needed cleaning and conservation, but he’s back again above the fireplace to keep his beady eye on all the staff in the Common Room. Have a good half term.‘
The Rev. Canon Woodard was Provost from 1848 until his death in 1891 and he devoted himself to the cause of middle-class education, by writing letters, raising money, attending meetings and above all founding his own schools.
