Graham Negus
Honorary Secretary
I am delighted to have been Honorary Secretary of the Society since 2018. We have many opportunities for OJs to join the meetings that we hold throughout the year and we are keen to encourage new players join us. In particular, it would be good to see some younger OJs in the Society, whatever their level of play, so I encourage you to get in touch!
We are lucky enough to play at some very highly rated courses where good golf is important but camaraderie is of equal value.

The society has two principal functions, first to provide a structure of social golf days throughout the year for old boys and girls of Hurstpierpoint College of all different standards and secondly to represent the school in many of the competition events that exist through the public schools golfing association – of which there are several.
The most prestigious event in our calendar is the Halford Hewitt competition which is played over a six day period each Easter at Royal St Georges Golf Club in Sandwich and Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club in Deal.
Whilst our record has not always been illustrious, 2023 saw a turnaround in our fortunes with more young and talented players on board, an average handicap of 2.7 and a team of ten that progressed to the third round of the tournament for the first time in 70 years. On the back of this, we hope to develop further and be able to take on the might of such schools at Charterhouse, Tonbridge, Harrow and Watsons for example, all of whom have enjoyed historical success in the event.
In addition to the society days at lovely courses like West Sussex, Royal Ashdown and Royal Cinque Ports, we have additional friendly matches against other old school teams – Eastbourne, Canford and Aldenham are regular fixtures, plus another scratch match involving Eastbourne, Brighton and Lancing in a quadrangular match at West Sussex GC.
We are very keen to welcome new members who went to school at Hurstpierpoint and of course their guests and old school colleagues to our many social events throughout the year – do join in and bring your OJ friends.
