Staff versus the School Football match

The annual Staff versus Pupils Football matches took place last week. Hurst was originally a Football school but changed to Rugby in 1925. This vintage photograph shows the last Masters versus Boys Football match played before the outbreak of the First World War, a war which was to claim the lives of six of the players depicted here. We revived this annual match in their honour for the centenary in 2013 and it has become a school tradition once again.
