Jessica-Jane (Pelican 2012) qualified as a Solicitor-Advocate in 2020 and is currently working as an Associate at Capsticks LLP having studied Law at King’s College London. Jessica spoke to the Hurst Foundation about what she has been up to since leaving the college.
When asked whether she knew she’d end up where she is now, Jessica told us that “there were twists and turns along the way, but I believe that I am where I am supposed to be. I always enjoyed studying philosophy and ethics at school, especially medical ethics, and I always aspired to become a solicitor”. One of the most striking moments in Jessica’s career path so far was meeting the lawyers involved in some of the legal cases that she had studied during her undergraduate degree when she started working at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, which she described as being “hugely exciting and memorable”.
Jessica told us that the secrets to her success are “determination, commitment and family support”. She also stressed her passion for the area of law that she works in and said, “I am sure that this has contributed to my success to date”. Jessica encourages other aspiring solicitors to “be prepared to work, keep an open mind and enjoy the journey”.
Jessica has recently started a new job in private practice having worked in the public sector for a healthcare regulator after training in-house at an NHS Trust. She’s appeared in the High Court for the Nursing and Midwifery Council and represented King’s at inquests as well working on Court of Protection matters and clinical claims. Looking to the future, Jessica tells us that her current plan is to settle into her new role. We wish her all the best!
