A Glorious Day of Music at Hurst

On Sunday, we were delighted to host a wonderful day of music-making led by Neil Matthews, Hurst’s Director of Music. Blessed with beautiful weather and an excellent turnout, the event centred around rehearsing and performing John Rutter’s acclaimed Requiem, a stunning choral work by one of the world’s most cherished living composers.

It was lovely to welcome back some familiar faces across the years at Hurst, including Heide Hughes (Martlet House), Joan Peters (German), Neil Morris (English and former Housemaster of Red Cross), Debbie Stoneley (Prep School and then Director of Safeguarding for the College) and Paulette Gordon-Stewart (Prep School).

The day began with coffee at 10.00am, followed by a morning rehearsal, a relaxed lunch break, and an afternoon session of focused practice. Participants of all ages and abilities were warmly welcomed and worked together to produce a moving and memorable piece of music.

After a Service led by the Chaplain, Janneke Blokland, to dedicate the Chaplains' Board in memory of The Revd Gerald Buss, Hurst Chaplain from 1974 to 1991, everyone gathered for the final performance for family, friends, and the wider Hurst Foundation community.

The day was a true celebration of music and community, made all the more special by the glorious sunshine and the shared enthusiasm of everyone involved.

Thank you to all who attended and contributed to such a joyful and successful day!
