"There were about 400 boys only in my day and the little study cubicles in the day room were called “horse boxes” I can understand why the young ladies would not want to use that word to describe that facility."
Nick Brown
1970-1975
"Sleepless nights in the Senior dorm. I'd go out to the bath/shower area and sit in the dark on the window sill where the fire escape used to be (still is?). This would be the far right window sill as you look out to Danny. I used to just sit there, chilling and watching the lights of the cars coming down the hill from Ditchling Beacon. That'd be about 1974."
Simon East
1987-1992
"I have two memories of significant events from my first year in Shield (1987/8): the Great Storm (three weeks without electricity, candles in the dorms) and the Great Fire (5th form common room next to the kitchen went up in flames)! Dramatic times!"
