CCF 75th Anniversary Challenge and Annual Mess Dinner

On the evening of 26th April 2024 the Hurst CCF gathered for the Officer, Cadet Warrant Officer and Sergeant Annual Mess Dinner. This year was particularly special as it marked 75 Years since the foundation of the modern CCF as it changed from the Officer Training Corps.

With it being such a special occasion OJs were invited to attend and relive their time in the CCF with the opportunity for a special “challenge” as part of the warm up for the evening. Maj Amos (Contingent Commander), Sgt Davies (SSI/2IC) and Cadet RSM Nelson welcomed several OJs for a session of air rifle shooting and archery. Top shot Colonel Field-Smith (Retd) took the top score in the range with ex Contingent Commander Jim Gowans setting the standard to beat in the archery range. Lots of smiley faces and what a lovely way to spend the afternoon.

All departed to change for the evening and reconvened for refreshments and a photo in the bar. The food was provided by the college’s own catering and was a superb standard. It is always amazing to see how quiet the tables go as the first course is served. The evening was finished with toasts and a speech from Maj. Amos before the group retired to the bar to finish off the Cheese Boards and Port.

A lovely night was enjoyed by all, and we look forward to next year’s. Thank you to all that made it possible and to the OJs in attendance for sharing your stories of Hurst with cadets and officers, it was a pleasure to have you with us.

Have your say
