Hurst parents support LVI Employability Skills morning

In April, Hurst hosted an Employability Skills Morning for all Lower Sixth pupils. The event aimed to equip pupils with the skills and knowledge essential for successfully navigating the modern job market.

Throughout the morning, pupils engaged in a series of activities designed to enhance their employability. These activities included familiarising themselves with digital skills such as using video platforms for interviews and mastering essential workplace tools like Word, Excel, and Google Suite. Additionally, students explored the role of AI in the recruitment process, gaining insights into how technology is shaping the future of hiring.

Another highlight of the event was the psychometric testing session, where students took personality tests and Myers Briggs Type Indicators. These assessments helped students understand their strengths and areas for improvement, providing valuable self-awareness that can be leveraged in their career journeys.

The assessment centre activities offered students a taste of real-world group exercises, fostering teamwork and problem-solving skills. These simulations aimed to prepare students for the collaborative nature of modern workplaces and the challenges they may face in assessment centres as job applicants.

Special thanks go to the expert facilitators (and current or former Hurst parents) who generously supported the event: Emma Cleary, Founder and Director of Flexibility Matters; Sam Mercer, Co-Founder at Hopscotch Consulting; Russel Piper, HR Consultant at LCP; and Helen Vowls, Partner at Leathwaite.
