OJ Nick Paddenburgh: Championing Digital Tax Reform at Parliament

Last month, OJ Nick Paddenburgh (Star - 2003) was invited to the Houses of Parliament to participate in a high-level roundtable on the UK’s Making Tax Digital (MTD) programme. The session, hosted by James Murray MP—formerly Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury and now Chief Secretary to the Treasury—brought together senior HMRC leaders and key voices from the software industry to shape the future of digital tax transformation.

The roundtable focused on:  Insights from the MTD testing phase, strategies to boost awareness and testing uptake and opportunities for deeper collaboration across sectors. Nick's contributions went beyond the roundtable. In one-on-one discussions with both James Murray and HMRC leadership, Nick shared actionable feedback that has already begun shaping HMRC’s approach to MTD implementation.

Nick shared, “It was an honour to represent the software community and advocate for practical improvements to MTD. Seeing my feedback taken onboard and put into action is a testament to the power of collaboration and thoughtful design.”

We congratulate Nick, whose leadership is shaping smarter, more accessible digital tax systems for all.
