OJ Marcus Campopiano Helps Italy Qualify for Cricket World Cup – A Historic First

We’re incredibly proud to share that OJ Marcus Campopiano (Eagle - 2013) played a key role in helping Italy qualify for the 2026 Cricket World Cup — the first time in the nation’s history!

Marcus was part of the squad during the thrilling qualifying campaign in July, which saw Italy face off against the Netherlands, Scotland, Jersey, and Guernsey. With standout performances — including a blistering 50 off 22 balls from opener Emilio Gay and a nail-biting win over Scotland — Italy secured their place in the World Cup in dramatic fashion.

Marcus’s contribution to the qualifying team is a testament to his dedication, talent, and hard work. He now continues his training and development, and we hope to see him named in the final squad for the World Cup next year.

His journey from Hurst to the international stage is an inspiration to current pupils and fellow OJs alike, and a proud moment for the Hurst sporting community. The Rob Kift Sports Bursary, which will be launched at the upcoming Centenary Rugby Celebration in November, aims to support future pupils in following similar paths — and Marcus’s story is a shining example of what’s possible.

We’ll be catching up with Marcus in next year’s Foundation OJ Magazine to hear more about his World Cup experience and what lies ahead.

Congratulations, Marcus — Forza Italia!

Have your say
