Hurst was founded in 1849 by Nathaniel Woodard, who believed every pupil should have the chance to learn, flourish and achieve great things, regardless of their background. That belief is at the heart of the Engage Bursary Campaign, our long-term commitment to giving more young people the chance to lead and to be changemakers.
The Rob Kift Sports Bursary Fund exists to ensure that financial circumstance is never the reason a talented young person misses out on a Hurst education, and the opportunities in sport that come with it.
Every gift to the fund goes directly towards sports bursary places, giving young people the chance to thrive at Hurst in the same way Rob's own players once did.
Hurst was founded in 1849 by Nathaniel Woodard, and it is that year which gives its name to our giving society. The 1849 Society is for those who choose to support our bursary programme with a regular gift, by direct debit, monthly or annually.
Hurst began life in 1849 as St John's Middle Grammar School, a name it still carries today in the College Chapel, St John's. It is that name we have given to our legacy giving society, which recognises those who choose to leave a gift to Hurst in their will.
