The Spring Meeting at West Sussex G.C is always one of our most enjoyable Society days of the year and this year's event certainly did not disappoint with an excellent turnout of twenty one people including three lunch guests. The course was as always immaculate with its pristine fairways, punitive heather, and true but sometimes sandy greens and a challenging wind.

In the morning, the Gibbs Cup Stableford was won by Christian Wimshurst with 37 points off a playing handicap of 6. Tom Fairfax was runner up with 36 points off a playing handicap of 7. The Presidents Cup for Seniors was won by Mark Baldock with 35 points off playing handicap of 9. The Scratch prize was also won by Christian with 31 scratch points and a gross 73. The Guest Prize was won by Andy MacFarlane with 37 points off a playing handicap of 7.

We were joined for a very good carvery lunch by Dudley and Suzanne Stratford and also by Roger Goodacre and we shared wines from the Keith Jenkin jug as part of Keith's generous legacy to the Society. Lunch was a very convivial occasion with the majority in the distinctive OHJGS stripy blazer.

After lunch we played foursomes for the Petherbridge Bowl, in most case pairing low and high handicappers together. This was won by Patrick McGahan and Christian Wimshurst with 39 points after a last 9 hole countback against Tom Fairfax and Jamie Hutchins, the later on his first outing for the Society and with hopefully many more to come.

The prize giving was held on the terrace at West Sussex at 6.30 pm with silver ware and wines distributed to the winners. The next two Society events are the Jonathan Baldwin Trophy played at the Drift Golf Club on the 20th May and the Summer Meeting played at East Sussex National on the 11th July.
